The International Trademark Association (INTA) presented its 2012 President?s Award to Louis T. Pirkey (pictured), founding partner of Pirkey Barber in Austin, during the INTA?s Nov. 8 meeting in Orlando, Fla.
The award recognizes leadership in trademark and intellectual property related law and those individuals who have made contributions that advance INTA?s mission.
?I certainly was very honored and humbled,? Pirkey says.
He says Pirkey Barber is one of the firms that is an associate member of the INTA, which is a worldwide association of companies that own trademarks.
Pirkey says he has worked in the INTA approximately 40 years and has served on a number of the association?s committees and its board of directors. He says he also served on the 29-member Trademark Review Commission, an INTA group that recommended substantial revisions in the federal trademark law in 1988.?
?The 29 of us effectively rewrote the trademark law in 1988,? Pirkey says, noting that the Trademark Law Revision Act took effect the following year.?
